Bob grew up in New Jersey, coming to Vermont to attend the University of Vermont.   After spending his freshman summer working construction in New Jersey, Bob returned to Vermont knowing it would be his home for good.   While attending UVM, Bob also worked at various restaurants and bars in Burlington, notably Fresh Ground Coffee House and Hunt's.

After graduating from UVM, Bob worked full time in the restaurant business before deciding to go to Vermont Law School.   At VLS, Bob was a Research Editor on The Vermont Law Review.  Bob also took up ultimate frisbee, which became a passion.  He was a founding member of the Green Mountain Disc Alliance and a member of Uncivil Union, a mixed club team the made two appearences at the National Ultimate Frisbee Championships.   

Upon graduation from VLS, Bob took a one year position with the Vermont Department of State's Attorneys and Sheriffs, handling appeals before the Vermont Supreme Court.   After this position, Bob joind Martin & Paolini in Barre, Vermont.   Bob handled a diverse general practice, but also handled appeals before the Vermont Supreme Court pursuant to a conflicts contract with the Defender General.  

After three years at Martin & Paolini, Hoff Curtis hired Bob as an associate attorney.   Under the supervision of former Defender General David Curtis, and the now Honorable Judge John L. Pacht, Bob represented criminal and juvenile client's pursuant to a conflicts contract with the Defender General.   Bob became a partner in Hoff Curtis in 1997.

In 2005, Vermont's Defender General selected Bob to take on a newly created Serious Felony Conflicts Contract.   Since that time, Bob has handled a significant number of serious felony cases, including numerous homicides and sexual assaults.   Since joining Hoff Curtis in 1993, Bob has also maintained a significant private practice.   

Bob is a current member and past President of the Vermont Association of Crimial Defense Attorneys (2016).   He is also a current member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.   

In 2014, Bob's wife Emily Bayer-Pacht joined Hoff Curtis.  Emily is primarily responsible for the representation of individuals pursuant to a Defender General conflicts contract in Addison County.   

Bob and Emily live in Hinesburg with their three daughters.
